Caretakers of Hillsboro’s city park, already facing the long and tedious task of cleaning the park after the flood, were hit below the belt when they discovered last week that one of their small pull-behind trailers was stolen.
It was bad enough that ice and beavers destroyed many of the three and four-year old trees, and the flooding Goose left a thick layer of silt on the park grounds, “but to have our trailer stolen, that was a low blow,” said park board president Tim “Teak” Kelley.
“We would like to have it returned.”
No questions will be asked, said Kelley. Park board members do not want to prosecute, he said. They simply want their trailer returned.
While the deposited silt is the worst Teak Kelley has ever seen, the river this year was kind enough not to leave a huge amount of dead timber on the lower levels of the city’s Woodland Park.
Meanwhile, much like the golf course, the silt will have to dry before it can be swept off the park grass, said Kelley.
“It’ll kill the grass if we don’t get it off.”
On higher ground from Woodland Park, near the school, in fact, Hillsboro’s skateboard park is shooting for a June 1 opening date.
A cement base was poured last year.
The skateboard equipment is expected to arrive in May.
