Halfway home

Shifting gears.
The Hwy. 200 reconstruction project shifted south Monday morning — and shut down Caledonia Avenue, arguably the busiest intersection in the city.
The $2.9 million project now technically past the halfway point. Work on the north end of the city’s primary north-south thoroughfare is in “tidy up” mode.   (more…)

Future of Red River bridge at Nielsville in doubt

Friends of the Red River Bridge at Nielsville better hope the structure’s life expectancy will take it into its golden years.

Right now the bridge is 69 years old.

Not necessarily old, in terms of bridge years, but old enough that state inspectors are not excluding it from regular bridge inspections. (more…)

Back to Ground Zero.

No closer to resolving the problems at their Social Services agency and law enforcement center than they were three years ago, when the need for more space first surfaced, Traill County commissioners this week again failed to reach a consensus on how to solve the dilemma.

While the commissioners recognize the problems experienced by sheriff Mike Crocker’s department and Social Services director Kim Jacobson’s staff, Traill County’s highest decision-making board has no answer to the quandary that the deteriorating addition built in 1955 has caused. (more…)

60 YEARS AGO
July 16, 1948 — Over 4,000 Traill County residents voted in the June primary.
Electric use was up in Hillsboro. City auditor R.W. Johnston reported that Northern States Power Co. billed the city for 105,000 kwh in the month of June. A large number of water heaters had been installed in the city in recent months after the city implemented a new rate for the service. The heaters were rigged with clocks that cut power for five hours a day when the electric load was at its peak.  (more…)

Lillian Strom Hanson, 88, Mayville, N.D. died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Luther Memorial Home, Mayville.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Gran Lutheran Church, rural Mayville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Baker Funeral Home of Mayville is in charge of arrangements.

Robert K. Ludwig, 55, Hillsboro, N.D., died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital.
Funeral services were Thursday, August 7 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Bohnsack Township, near Hillsboro.
Wildeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
