The Central Valley-Hillsboro Legion baseball team this week split doubleheaders with the Fargo Bombers and Hatton-Northwood and lost once to Hope-Finley.

The Bluesox lost, 8-7, to Hope-Finley Wednesday. The Spartans scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning to break a 6-6 tie and defeat the Sox.  (more…)

4-H Achievement Day

Anna Lemm appeared to have an understanding with her entry in the 4-H Achievement Day judging Saturday in Hillsboro.

The cattle entered in the annual 4-H judging event proved to be a handful, however.

Still, the kids had the upper hand, according to the spectators surrounding the show ring.

Rain slows work on Hwy. 200 reconstruction

Vets Club contributes to Traill health unit, HMC project

The Vets Club in Hillsboro extended a helping hand this week to the Traill District Health Unit.

Thanks to the generosity of the Vets Club, the Hillsboro-based district health office will be able to purchase a wheelchair, according to TDHU director Brenda Stallman.

“We’re sincerely appreciative of the donation from the Vets Club,” said Stallman. “Our clients are especially thankful.”  (more…)

60 YEARS AGO
July 16, 1948 — Over 4,000 Traill County residents voted in the June primary.
Electric use was up in Hillsboro. City auditor R.W. Johnston reported that Northern States Power Co. billed the city for 105,000 kwh in the month of June. A large number of water heaters had been installed in the city in recent months after the city implemented a new rate for the service. The heaters were rigged with clocks that cut power for five hours a day when the electric load was at its peak.  (more…)

Donald Raymond Hanson, 86, Fargo, formerly of Hillsboro, N.D., died Sunday, June 29, 2008 in Baxter, Minn.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 3 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro.  Wildeman Funeral Home of Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

Elda Brunzell Hall

Elda Corrine Brunzell was born March 18, 1921 to parents Conrad and Grace Brunzell at Fergus Falls, Minn. Elda died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Galley, Mayville office.
A memorial service was held at Eksjo Lutheran Church, near Lake Park, Minn. on Friday, July 18. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home of Fargo, N.D. was in charge of arrangements.

5K run planned Sept. 27 to benefit HMC

Hillsboro commissioners granted approval to a 5K race event in the city Saturday, September 27.

Organizer Larry Mueller told city leaders that the Hillsboro Hospitality 5k family run/walk may become an annual benefit event for the Hillsboro Medical Center.

Mueller, who is working with Kim Salander and Dori Baesler, to make arrangements for the event, said that run will start and end in Woodland Park and send runners and walkers on a 3.1 mile course on the city’s east side. The race can’t cross railroad tracks, Mueller said, keeping the participants on one side of town.  (more…)

Mulligan ruling adds to chase for tournament championship

Teams chasing the championship trophy in next Friday’s charity golf tournament can’t bank on mulligans to claim the top prize.

Bragging rights to winning the biggest golf tournament played on the Hillsboro course this year will come on scratch scores and handicapped scoring, not the availability of second shot $5 mulligans.

In other words, the July 18 Hillsboro Medical Center Foundation Charity Golf Tournament can’t be bought.

Golfers this year will be limited to two mulligans each in the 18-hole scramble at the Goose River Golf Course in Hillsboro.  (more…)
