HHS track and field athletes competed in two track meets in the last week — scheduling around the worst of spring’s inclement weather.
On Monday, the Burros competed at Concordia College in the Fargo Shanley American Legion meet. The event was to have been held last Friday but cold, windy, wet weather forced postponement.
In a meet dominated by Class A teams, two HHS athletes managed to place — senior Kiley Coles placed 6th in the 1600 meters with a state qualifying time of 5:26.87 and 7th in the 800 meters (2:26.01) and senior Maggie McLean earned 8th in the javelin with a throw of 96 feet 1 inch.
Fargo South won the meet with 185.5 points, followed by Moorhead, Jamestown, Fargo North, Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page, Lisbon, Grand Forks Red River, Grand Forks Central, Wahpeton, Shanley, Valley City, Hillsboro and Minto-Midway.
On the boys side, runners Billy Otto, Tyler Anderson, Thomas Johnson, Gary Suchor and Oakly Zink competed. The group’s best finish was 9th in the 4×800 relay and earned the squad one team point.
Fargo South won the meet followed by Moorhead, Red River, Central, Lisbon, North, Valley City, Wahpeton, Oak Grove, Shanley, FSHP, West Fargo and Hillsboro.
A day later, the Burros headed north for the Red River Valley Conference meet in Larimore.
