Traill economic development board has full compliment of directors

Traill County added five individuals to its economic development commission this week, bringing the number to 12 who will serve on the board designed to develop commerce in the county.

Doug Melby, Hillsboro, is board chairman.

Rich Forsgren, who was released from his duties as executive director, will continue to work with the commission through April.

Joining the commissioner this week were Gail Mooney, Cummings; Todd Schmidt, Portland; and Don Cannon, Deb Kyllo and Mary Stocking, all of Mayville.

The five appointments were approved Tuesday at the regularly-scheduled meeting of the Traill County Board of County Commissioners.

Currently serving on the Traill County Economic Development Commission, in addition to Melby, are Steve Larson, Arne Osland, Stuart Larson, Rick Holman, Paul Marchell and Karen Naastad.

Addressing the county commission Tuesday morning in Hillsboro, Larson told the board that TCEDC, in the future, “would be more active.”

Larson and Osland represent the Traill commission on the TCEDC board. Osland promised better attendance of the TCEDC board members. Miss two meetings and you’re off the board, intimated Osland and Larson.

TCEDC members met this week with the respective economic development board members from Hillsboro, Mayville and Hatton.

“We’re trying to figure out who we are,” Osland explained to the Traill commission.

“It’s a process.”

Osland stressed that the new board would be “more active” in the process of developing commerce in Traill County.

In other business Tuesday, the commission —

■ Approved the summer schedule for staff at the courthouse. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the courthouse hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon Friday.

■ Interim road and bridge superintendent Bill Fischer notified the commissioners that load limits were posted on all county roads Monday.
