A Hillsboro farmer who cultivated meaningful legislation at the State Capitol, a teacher who pioneered special education in Traill County and a bandmaster who made music in the halls of Hillsboro High School 90 years ago are being inducted into the Hillsboro Public School Hall of Fame.
Ralph Diehl, Beulah Koering and Leif Christianson were elected to the Hillsboro hall of fame this week.
The 2008 induction ceremony will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, Friday, June 20, 2008. (more…)

District 3 took it on the chin Monday at Grafton.
District 4 delivered the knockout blow.
Hillsboro, Thompson, Hatton-Northwood and Dakota Prairie all lost in Monday’s opening round of the Region 2 boys basketball tournament at Grafton.
Hatton-Northwood was the No. 1 seed out of District 3. The Thunder were eliminated by Park River, 68-46.
Dakota Prairie, regular season champ and No. 2 seed, was knocked out by North Border, 69-59. (more…)

February 27, 1948 — Continuous winds throughout Traill County and the Red River Valley during the past week kept all county and side roads blocked, marooning travelers at farm houses and reducing business and social activities to a standstill. After a blizzard with 70 mph winds, snow removal crews had just cleared roads when a heavy wet snow fell, followed by freezing rain that turned highways into skating rinks. Ten travelers tried to follow a snowplow from Mayville to Hillsboro Sunday but were stranded at a farm until Tuesday afternoon.
Mile 26 Air Field in Alaska was renamed in memory of Hatton-born pilot-explorer Col. Carl Ben Eielsen. (more…)
