November 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

With unexpected harshness, even though warnings told of possible unsavory conditions, an early season squall Monday night raced through Hillsboro and much of the Red River Valley, rivaling the worst whiteouts of winters past.

Seemingly at home on the hardwood basketball court of the Hillsboro High School gymnasium, bookended by two hoops and where legends were made along with four state championships, Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) appeared at home Monday, when he met with Hillsboro’s juniors and seniors.

Relating how small town life in Hillsboro is comparable with his hometown, Regent, in southwestern North Dakota and the town that beat Napoleon in the recently completed 9-man football playoffs, the North Dakota senator talked of the future of the state and today’s students, his own views on the UND Fighting Sioux nickname controversy, the war in Iraq, gay marriage, the probability of hunting with vice president Dick Cheney, and if the country was, indeed, ready for a woman president.  (more…)
