Hillsboro certainly didn’t shortchange anyone again this Halloween.
Cheap, this town isn’t, said one fan of Halloween.
Families and more families and more kids in costume than you can shake a broom stick at were downtown Wednesday afternoon and all around town in the early evening hours as Halloween brought out the best of the season in everyone.
It certainly brought out the candy.
Record numbers darted in and out of businesses, both downtown and at the interstate interchange. Several business had to make a mad dash to the store for more candy.
“Great fun,” said one business owner.
“Never seen this many young families before,” said another.
Some of the same decorated faces, in addition to some new ones, visited Hillsboro’s many neighborhoods at dusk and later in the evening.
“All kids just having fun,” said one Hillsboro southside resident.
“It was nice seeing the parents along.”
Said one girl: “Can I have a piece of candy for my brother?”
Meanwhile, the Goose River Bank was the winner this year in the “Scarecrows, Ghosts and Goblins” decorating contest sponsored by the Hillsboro Business Association.
The Hillsboro bank will receive $75 for their efforts.
Sandy Leum was the second place winner in the HBA fall contest. She will receive $50 in Hillsboro Bucks from the local business organization.
Also recognized for their scarecrows, ghosts and goblins were the Paul and Linda Anderson and Arne Sorum residences, in addition to Dakota Heritage Bank, Hillsboro Drug, Hometown Aditude and the Hillsboro Medical Center.
