New lights will shine on football field next year

October 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Already under the spotlight this year, Hillsboro’s football team next year will be playing under new and brighter lights.
The Hillsboro School will have new flood lights over its football field, starting with the 2008 season.
Waslien Electric, with shops in Buxton and Hillsboro, will add new flood lights to the field’s 10 tall poles next spring.
Waslien’s low bid of $11,560 was accepted by the Hillsboro School Board last week. Nelson Electric and J&L Electric, both local firms, also bid on the new football field lights.
“It’s not cheap, but the lights needed to be upgraded,” said Hillsboro School superintendent Mike Bitz. The Buxton company’s bid was lower than expected and much appreciated, said Bitz.
In making that point, Bitz reported how the lights at the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood football field in Wyndmere were replaced this year at a cost of $21,768.
Hillsboro’s school board, meanwhile, delayed a decision on upgrading the field’s scoreboard.
Cost estimates for a new scoreboard range from $11,300 to $16,600.
