Be on the lookout for the newest police officer in town — Scott Crump.
A Missouri native, Crump’s ambition of being a police officer began when he was just a boy.
His father was a police chief in Ryan, Iowa.
“I’ve always had the desire since I was young,” the 34-year-old Officer Crump said.
After being in the military for six years, Officer Crump began a career in the sales industry. After 12 years, he decided to follow his childhood dream of becoming a police officer. He is a recent graduate of the Peace Officer Training Academy at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D. He was hired in mid-September and has been on patrol for about a week.
Officer Crump says that most days in Hillsboro have been routine. He spends most of his time in his squad car, patrolling the town to make sure Hillsboro is safe. He also takes the time to talk to people. Meeting different people is one of the things he likes best about his new job.
Crump describes himself as a friendly guy who loves people.
With only two officers in the Hillsboro police department, Crump will quickly become a familiar face as he meets and greets Hillsboro residents every day while on duty.
Crump considers the town of Hillsboro, his first assignment as a police officer, a very friendly place.
He currently lives in Dilworth, Minn., with his wife, Anne, a registered nurse and their four young children.
Crump said his family is “very supportive” of his new career choice.
“I wouldn’t have gone into this if it wasn’t for them.”
He and his family plan on moving to Hillsboro in the very near future. They’ve been busy looking for a new home in town, Crump said.
Off-duty, Officer Crump loves to spend time with his family. He considers himself an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He is also an avid Fighting Sioux hockey fan. He tries to put his season tickets to good use and attend the games in Grand Forks whenever he is free from work.
On-duty, Crump is on patrol in Hillsboro — his new beat.
