50 YEARS AGO
August 29, 1957 — Hillsboro city streets were torn up in order to install new water mains. The railroad crossings were also the focus of an improvement project.
Gundy’s Radio and TV in Hillsboro premiered the new RCA Victor Microsharp television. The super console cost $239.95.
Coast to Coast Hardware advertised a Robin Hood lunch kit for $2.89 and a three-speed phonograph for $19.95.
For the first time in history all Traill County schools planned to operate on a nine-month calendar. Classes were to start Sept. 3. (more…)

Margaret Mooney

Margaret A. Mooney, 86, Hillsboro, N.D. died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Hillsboro Medical Center.
Margaret A. O’Gorman was born October 22, 1920 in Grand Forks, N.D. to John J. and Mary C. O’Gorman. She grew up on a farm near Caledonia, N.D. She attended school and graduated from Caledonia High School. She moved to California where she worked for a period during World War II. After she returned to Hillsboro, she worked as a housekeeper at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She also worked for many years at the Blue Bird Cafe in Hillsboro. She married Walter B. “Red” Mooney November 15, 1949 at St. Rose in Hillsboro. She worked for Billie Klemetson and Buddy Jacobson as well as the Hillsboro School District for a number of years. Anthony William Breidenbach, 70, Buxton, N.D. died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at home.
Funeral services were Friday, August 31 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Reynolds. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Reynolds.
Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, N.D. was in charge of arrangements.
