Double-digit, below average temperatures have stalled the start of the planting season in the Red River Valley and across the state.
In fact, the first 11 days of April this year have been the coldest on record.
Just when farmers here were thinking they would be in the fields on or about April 16, the average starting date for the eastern regions of the state, it rained and then it snowed.

The Hillsboro Business Association, which pledged $2,500 last month to the Hillsboro Medical Center’s expansion and remodeling project, this week promised to give Hillsboro Community Partnership $250 toward its effort to save Union Block.
Hillsboro Community Partnership (HCP) is planning a fund-raising dinner buffet Sunday, April 22 at the Main Street Community Center, starting at 11 a.m.
This is for a good cause, said Bob Hebl, who encouraged the local business group to make the contribution. (more…)
