Harvey Evenson, who can relate to coal-burning furnaces and wood-burning stoves of yesteryear, promises to have the Woodland Park warming house “plenty warm” for Sunday’s expected crowd.
Families have been waiting for the annual Winter Sunday in the Park, where Harvey and friends will entertain the children with sleigh rides behind Hank Geray’s team of Belgian horses.
Harvey also has 65 pair of ice skates and 20 sets of snowshoes available.
Thanks to the 3 inches of snow that blanketed the park earlier in the week, the snowshoes might be put to good use, Harvey figures. He knows he’ll have a bunch of kids on skates.
Unfortunately, the daytime temperature Sunday is expected to be a cold 8 degrees above zero. Which is better than the 28 below temp registered Wednesday morning, and better than the 10 below temperature on Feb. 4, when the sleigh rides were first planned. Meanwhile, wind chill factors in the region this week were in the 35 below neighborhood.
The hours on Sunday are from 1 to 4 p.m.
Harvey will be waiting
